2010 Congress Avenue Mile

Four CP runners earned a trip to Austin to participate in the highly anticipated culminating event of the track season, The Congress Avenue Mile.  The one mile race from the state capitol building to the southern edge of the Congress Avenue Bridge pits the fastest 48 boys and 48 girls high school elite runners from across the state against each other.  The athletes were hosted by RunTex, Adidas and Dell to a Friday night celebration where they could get to know each other.  On Saturday morning the runners donned their Adidas team uniforms representing the four regions of Texas and raced for individual  and team honors.   The girls CP runners ran for the winning high school elite East Team.  Katie Jensen finished 11th (4th for the East) in 5:04, Bree Schrader finished 16th (6th for the East) in 5:08, and McKenze Neal finished 18th (8th for the East) in 5:10.  The East girls team won bragging rights with 38 points over the West team with 43 points led by the overall fastest finisher Amanda Russell in 4:51.   On the boys side, Brian Gohlke also running for the East placed 18th (5th for the East) in 4:15.
