2010 Congress Avenue Mile


Four CP runners earned a trip to Austin to participate in the highly anticipated culminating event of the track season, The Congress Avenue Mile.  The one mile race from the state capitol building to the southern edge of the Congress Avenue Bridge pits the fastest 48 boys and 48 girls high school elite runners from across the state against each other.  The athletes were hosted by RunTex, Adidas and Dell to a Friday night celebration where they could get to know each other.  On Saturday morning the runners donned their Adidas team uniforms representing the four regions of Texas and raced for individual  and team honors.   The girls CP runners ran for the winning high school elite East Team.  Katie Jensen finished 11th (4th for the East) in 5:04, Bree Schrader finished 16th (6th for the East) in 5:08, and McKenze Neal finished 18th (8th for the East) in 5:10.  The East girls team won bragging rights with 38 points over the West team with 43 points led by the overall fastest finisher Amanda Russell in 4:51.   On the boys side, Brian Gohlke also running for the East placed 18th (5th for the East) in 4:15.

Region 2-5A Track Meet - Girls Distance Recap


Well, the Region 2 competition proved to be tough and exciting as expected. The Running Cavs traveled to Baylor University in Waco, TX this past Sunday and ended up 6th out of 33 in Team Standings with 35 points. Competition kicked off Monday with the Triple Jump, running prelims and 3200m finals - with rain threateneing to alter Monday's evening schedule. Katie Jensen, fighting back allergies and cold symptoms all weekend, posted a new College Park HS record and personal best 11:03.42. Amanda Russell (Vista Ridge), Regan Tindall (Belton) and Hillary Montgomery (Klein) took the 1st, 2nd and 3rd spots respectively. K. Jensen, along with McKenze Neal and Bree Schrader followed up Monday's 3200m with the 1600m on Tuesday night. The race resulted in a 3rd,4th,5th place finish from McKenze (5:09.11), Bree (5:12.14) and Katie(5:14.77). Russell and Tindall will compete as Region 2's 3200m and 1600m state qualifiers at UT Austin on May 15th, taking 1st and 2nd in each event. All 3 College Park runners have earned and accepted an invitation to compete in the coveted and highly competitive 'Congress Avenue Mile' in Austin, TX later this month. McKenze Neal, the distance running team's lone senior, will continue her running career at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. Results from the prelims and Triple Jump will be posted at a later date.
